Daniel B. Hier, MD, MBA
Daniel B. Hier, MD, MBA, is professor of neurology and rehabilitation at the University of Illinois where he serves as medical director and physician practice director for the Neuroscience Center in the Ambulatory Care Center. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He completed a neurology residency and stroke fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and previously served as chairman of neurology at the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and head of neurology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Hier has a longstanding interest in the application of information technology to improve the efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness of health care. He has an MBA in health informatics from the University of Illinois. He represents the AAN on the Physicians Electronic Health Record Coalition and serves as vice chair of the AAN's EHR Work Group. Hier is a volunteer member on the Inpatient Functionality Work Group of the Commission for Certification of Health Information Technology.
Hier is committed to the premise that health information technology in general-and AAN.com in particular-can improve collaboration in creating new knowledge relevant to neurological education. AAN.com can serve as a critical reservoir of knowledge about neurological education as well as serve as a storehouse of neurological content, and can foster the sharing of this knowledge, speed its dissemination, and heighten its accessibility.
